Giving gifts is a wonderful way to show someone we love them. But sometimes we have to give something to someone who is not so close to us and we have no idea what to give them. Sometimes we run out of ideas even for our loved ones - it is precisely to them that we have to give several gifts every year (for birthdays, holidays...) and at the end of the year it is not unusual if we do not have any smart ideas.

Where does the custom of giving gifts come from?

The most traditional and oldest custom in our country is gift-giving on December 6, when St. Nicholas, a Christian bishop and saint, celebrates. He is still known today for his generosity, as he is said to have come from a wealthy family and distributed all his wealth to the poor. More and more, however, Santa Claus, whose holiday originates from America, and in some places also Santa Claus, who originates from Russia, is supplanting Nicholas as a recipient of gifts.

Gift giving - an expression of love or mindless spending?

Giving gifts is one way to show a person how much they mean to us. At the same time, December Madness is increasingly becoming a promotion of consumerism and materialism. So instead of a peaceful Advent season with family, people spend the holidays flying around the shops.

So what to give?

It is best if the gifts are personal, as this shows that we listen to the person, know their wishes, hobbies and interests. Non-material gifts in the form of experiences are also wonderful. The products of Slovenian boutique companies also bring a smile to the face - not only to the recipients, but also to us, the entrepreneurs. :)
