Itchy skin? Here are 10 natural tricks to soothe it

I remember itchy skin being a problem for me since childhood. I would scratch myself until I bled and wake up at night because of itchy skin.
Of course, I immediately heard the classic: "Don't scratch yourself!"
But let's face it - when your skin is so itchy, it's practically impossible.
And sometimes we scratch ourselves completely unconsciously. Today I know that the main reason was dry skin .
I tried different creams and lotions, but I felt like my skin was just "drinking" them - and within an hour it was dry again. The itchy skin was still there.
Today I understand why.

Most lotions only contain humectants , which means they add moisture to the skin, but if you don't have ingredients in the product that retain that moisture, water evaporates quickly. On the other hand, we have products with oils and butters... Great as protection, but if you apply them to completely dry skin without prior hydration, the effect is almost nonexistent. The lower layer of skin is still thirsty. |
So I went through a cycle of products that either didn't work or even made the situation worse .
When I started developing a nourishing ointment, I set myself the goal of combining in one product:
1. Moisturizers (moisturize the skin),
2. Emollients (replace the skin's own lipids) and
3. Occlusive (retain moisture in the skin).
This ointment moisturizes and nourishes the skin, and also locks moisture inside.
The result? Soft, soothed skin without itchiness. 🧡
I want to share with you some other tricks that really helped me fight dry skin and itching.

1. Rule out allergies or intolerancesItching can be caused by allergies to dust mites, certain foods, gluten, histamine, or dairy intolerance. If itching persists without a clear cause, it is worth consulting a doctor. |
2. Ensure sufficient humidity in the room
Heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer often dry out the air, which also affects the skin. A humidifier, drying laundry indoors, or houseplants can help.
3. Avoid using too hot water in the shower
Hot water dissolves the natural oils in your skin and weakens the skin barrier, so moisture evaporates faster. The result - itchy skin. Your skin will like warm water much more, although sometimes it's a little harder to convince yourself. 😅
4. Change your shower gel
Most classic gels contain aggressive foaming agents that, in addition to dirt, also remove beneficial lipids and leave the skin vulnerable.
➡️ Solution: Beesmetic shower gel
It gently cleanses without drying out – just right for sensitive skin.

6. Drink enough water
Yes, I know, it's cliché - but hydration from the inside really counts. Make sure you drink enough of this stuff during the day , especially if you spend a lot of time in heated spaces or outdoors .
7. Eat more healthy fats
Omega-3 fatty acids (e.g. from flaxseed, nuts, chia seeds or quality oils) help restore the skin's protective barrier and reduce inflammatory processes that can cause itching .

8. Dry brushing before showeringGently brush your skin with a soft, natural brush before showering – this removes dead skin cells , improves microcirculation and allows better absorption of products. (Just don’t overdo it and don’t do this if your itchy skin is severely irritated . ) |
9. Avoid SLS and alcohol in skincare products
Some products contain alcohol or strong foaming agents (like SLS), which dry out and irritate the skin. Instead, choose gentle formulas to soothe itchy skin and not disrupt its natural defenses.
10. Change your bedding regularly and wear natural materials.
Bedding is in direct contact with the skin, so it 's important that it's clean, soft, and made of cotton or linen. Synthetics can cause irritation, making itchy skin even more irritated.
